Had my head unit replaced, can't tell if I have HD radio
Cabriolet
Thu, 05/03/2012 - 05:45
The display would fade completely when the vehicle interior was hot. Dealership had to swap out the head unit to fix it. I was told that HD radio is now standard, so all replacement head units come with HD radio as a free upgrade. The interface looks the same as before - how do you know if you have HD radio?

Anyway I bought a CPO'd 08 135i last December after much research and this past Saturday I plasti dipped both my rims and grills. It was my first real project (other than putting in angel eyes) on the car so I was a bit apprehensive. Anyway, here are pictures! Let me know what you think. Also, anyone have recommendations for blacking out my tail lights? Other than spray-on tint... Setup First Layer The Grills Even did the license plate holder cuz there were chrome.. Cabriolet
Wed, 05/02/2012 - 16:12
So was looking to get into something newer before my warrenty ends on my 2007 335i and the dealer has this 2012 white 135i with M package, navi, harmon kardon ect. Would you guys consider this a girly car? MSRP for it is 52K and they got it around 43K with lease payments of $496 a month close to what i pay for my 335. They are giving me 20K for my 335i sedan which has 53K miles on it, every option, CPO warranty, tire and wheel pkg, etc. Guys think its a good deal? Attached Images

Thinking about going from a 335i Coupe to a 135i/128i -- need input
Cabriolet
Wed, 05/02/2012 - 10:14
What's up, 1 folks? I'm about 2 years through a 3 year lease on a 2011 335i M-Sport Coupe (manual) and we recently turned in my wife's 2009 328i Sports Wagon for a 2012 (F30) 328i Luxury Line Sedan. It doesn't seem likely that the new 3 Coupe will be out before my lease is up and I strongly prefer coupes. Also, without going into great deal, let me just say I appreciate the F30 for what it is, but it just feels a bit too big, soft, remote and efficiency-focused compare to our E9X 3 Series. I will still test drive an F30 335i Sport Line when the time is right, but I'm starting to think I'd be happier with a 1 Series when my lease is up. Let me say up front that I'd be going into this eyes open: I know that 2013 will be the last year of the E82 and I had a hard time choosing between a 135 and my 335 a couple years back (I drove a 135 twice before making my decision). I'm generally happy with my current coupe, though I now find it slightly big and heavy for my tastes. And I know this might sound like heresy, but the N55 is so powerful that it's almost boring to drive on normal roads. If you really wind it out, you can get yourself into trouble too quickly. The old adage is true: a slow car driven fast is more fun than a fast car driven slow. My car before the 335 was a Z4 Coupe which was hard as nails (not tuned for run flats) but I loved LOVED L-O-V-E-D that 255HP N52 engine like nothing else. It was the perfect combination of smoothness and power with a great engine note (lots of windows down driving in that car). Also, as strange as it might sound, I think I might want to get one of the last NA inline 6s that BMW may ever offer before I don't have that choice. Now I'm looking at an M-Sport 128i or maybe a 135i (definitely manual). I know I'll miss the additional power of the turbocharged engine, but I really miss that steady "climb the mountain" pull of the N52 and, again, I really love the N52 even in detuned form. I know the 230HP variant in the 128i is not as strong as the engine from my Z4, but I think it's plenty to motivate a 3,200-ish lb. car and I really want to focus on getting a lighter, nimbler car that splits the different between the Z4 Coupe and the 335 Coupe. I kind of have old-school car values (and I still miss my E30 M3 from way back in the day). So, lots of preamble, I know, and here are my questions: 1) Has anyone else moved from a 335i Coupe to a 128 or 135i and, if so, can you offer your comparative impressions, both positive and negative? 2) In terms of ride quality, are all E82s with Sports Suspension the same? I ask because BMW revised the sports suspension on the MY2011 3 Series cars and it made a HUGE difference in ride quality (new Sachs dampers and some other changes that really reduced impact harshness even with low profile runflats). Does anyone know if a similar change was made to the recently updated E82s? if you've experienced both, how would you describe/rate ride quality of a Sport/M-Sport 1 Series with 17s or 18s compared to a Sport/M-Sport 3 Series? 3) Specs-wise, the HK Premium stereo upgrade on the 1 Series seems very similar to the HY stereo in the 3 Series, maybe down one speaker (center dash, I think) but it still has the under-seat subs. Can anyone confirm that they are basically the same stereo? I'm very pleased with the HK stereo in my 335 so I'm hoping I won't have to downgrade in that arena. 4) I know the 1 Series is a bit tighter, the rear seats aren't too usable (I only need to put a dog back there, so no worries) and some of the interior materials are a little cheaper than the 3, but none of those things concern me because I car more about how it drives. Anything else you think I should know about the potential switch from an E92 to an E82? Thanks in advance for any info you can offer, simianspeedster

BMW 135i color question
Cabriolet
Wed, 05/02/2012 - 03:41
Hello guys, I from Colombia, New to forum, I want to share with you some pics of my new E82. I bought it BSM 1 month ago. Bought that color cause was the only color available. I'm very obsessed with car detailing ( Sorry, my English it's not so good) The thing it's that I'm tired of detail, polish, etc etc every week and it's seems that this color get scratched just seen it!! I went to Bmw to find out about how to deal with it. The told me that BSM it's like that, nothing to do about it. They gave the option of change the color. Price was not ridiculous and they assure me that the result will be just as changing the car for a new one. here in Colombia car depreciate a lot, my car it's only 15 miles !! So sell it and buying a new one will cost here like 20k addition. Im thinking about changing the color ....AW with the roof black Matt. Please I'll appreciate your thoughts about it, comments, other suggestions. Some mods: - Performane front bumper - Performance rear diff - Strut Brace - Power Kit - Performance Wheels - Performance Breaks - Perf steering wheel - Perf Exhaust Sorry for the crappy pics , I will put better ones

SLIGHT and OCCASIONAL clutch chatter

I've driven manual trans for 35 years - I have found the 128i one of the more difficult cars to set in motion - it seems to be an effort to make it smooth. My Z3 and MINI (and my old 320i) were never this way. Occasionally, there will be a shudder or shimmy when starting out. When I say occasionally, I mean maybe 10% of the time. Does the 128i prefer a higher or lower engagement RPM? Not sure what I might be missing with this car, but I've driven everything from Beetles to toyotas and old Fords never had this shimmy crop up. Any thoughts? Thanks

Opinions on this extended warranty coverage/pricing
Cabriolet
Tue, 05/01/2012 - 05:04
Hey all, Just picked up an '08 135i with 33,000km (~21,000 miles). Warranty ends beginning of September. Dealer quoted me the following prices (CAD$) for the attached warranty (right most column) This is the Ultimate warranty: 1 more year, but not going over 80,000 kms $1886.00 + GST 1 more year, but not going over 100,000 kms $2109.00 + GST 2 more years, but not going over 80,000 kms $2004.00 + GST 2 more years, but not going over 100,000 kms $2282.00 + GST 3 more years, but not going over 80,000 kms $2093.00 + GST 3 more years, but not going over 100,000 kms $2709.00 + GST 3 more years, but not going over 120,000 kms $2989.00 + GST Very unlikely I will go over 80,000km over the next 3 years. For sure I will not go over in 2 years. So really, $2,100 for 3 more years coverage. There is a $200 deductible per visit (not per item fixed). Not so sure about that - need to get a bit more info on it. Includes navigation, dvd player and lcd screen. I have Idrive with Nav. Need to get more clarification if the entire idrive electronics are covered. I can't quite tell. Also not sure if my Comfort Access failing would be covered. I know there are mixed feelings on the extended warranty. I imagine this one must be fairly standard? Seem like a good bit is covered. Thoughts? Attached Images Coverageone.pdf (637.3 KB)

08 135i still on original HPFP should I try and make them fix it
Cabriolet
Tue, 05/01/2012 - 01:45
I've had my 08 for a few months now and figured I'd request the service records to see what I should be on the look out before I start doing more things to the car. The car has 20K miles on it and the only things I see done to it are: MP-Low miles oil service at 6124 brake fluid and microfilter at 7846 MP-Low mileage oil service, cold start engine speed, belt tensioner at 10505 1st Eng Oil service-Full maintenance at 18898 N54 Programming HDP, B13 09 10 at 18898 N54 Injector Check, B13 14 10 at 18898 N54 HDP, B13 09 10 at 18898 I don't know what those last 3 are but I don't see anything with HPFP. Should I try to get the dealer to replace this before I start throwing performance parts at it and then take a 3K mile road trip this summer? What else should/could I have them check or to while warranty is still on it.

Fun Drives
Cabriolet
Mon, 04/30/2012 - 01:30
Last weekend I was coming back from a wedding in Dahlonega, GA and I wanted to find some good roads for my 135. Not being familiar with the area, I used the BMW Ultimate Drive App and found some nice routes close by. I ended up taking GA-60 through the Chattahoochee National Forest and had an awesome drive. I got lucky and didn't have any cars in front of me until the last 5 miles. I did have a motorcycle behind me for a bit and it was fun having him push me a little faster than I wanted to go, but still had a blast. I was also really impressed with the quality of the roads in the backwoods of Georgia. Definitely give props to the taxpayers of the Peach State. What are some good drives you guys have had this year? Attached Images

Squeaky brake pedal

Anyone ever had that problem. It makes a squeaky sound whenever the pedal is depressed. It's very slight but it's ilke nails on chalkboard for me. I physically shudder so now I have to turn the radio up to mask the sound. Just want to make sure this isn't normal so I don't feel like a noob bringing it in. Didn't start happening until about 1000 miles in.

Orange Peel Effect
Cabriolet
Sun, 04/29/2012 - 17:24
Maybe my eyes or my memory are fooling me, but I do not remember ever owning a car with so much orange peel effect in the paint. The roof on my 2011 135i (Alpine White) looks pretty good. Fairly smooth overall. But the hood and the trunk lid appear almost bumpy especially when looking at the reflection of a light source. The rear panel, side panels and doors have an even more pronounced peel effect. Would clay remove this effect? I am worried that I might have to smooth the surface to a point below the layer of clearcoat to eliminate the bumps. I will probably just leave it alone, but was wondering if anyone else sees the same effect on their 1-series. The first picture is reflection of a garage ceiling light on the roof. The second is a reflection off the side panel just below the rear passenger side window. Seems pretty bumpy. Attached Images

11/26/2010 - 11:23

From the reaction and feedback I get on my Blog, it is clear that the wider subject of 'Pensions' is one of the main issues for expats and people intending to move to Spain. 'Special - Pensions Week' came from that feedback. Each day a different topic has been covered;

Monday - Introduction and some brief summaries
Tuesday - QNUPS, Qualifying Non-UK Pension Scheme
Wednesday - QROPS, comparing jurisdictions
Thursday - Focus on New Zealand as a financial centre
Friday - Pension Reciprocation Plan, the most innovative new plan I have seen

All of the articles can be accessed from the main page of the Blog at Financial Pages in Spain

I hope that this is helpful and informative. As always please give feedback or ask any questions by emailing me.

Low prices for car hire Malaga airport in winter
12/01/2010 - 13:08

Winter is a excellent season for coming to Malaga and also is for our budget. The demand for holidays in Malaga is growing every day and we can find great offers for car hire Malaga airport. Have you ever considered hiring a car at the airport?, if not what would you think if I say that prices go from 7 euro per day for 1 week car rental in Malaga?
Coming in winter to Malaga is becoming more popular every year due the excellent micro climate present during the whole year in Malaga. The temperature in the city and the Costa del Sol is milder than in any other part of Andalucia.
If our planning in Malaga includes touring the city, a 7 euro daily car hire is a cheap price if we compare to using public transport daily; A taxi from Torremolinos to Malaga airport as example costs 15 euro actually and from Malaga airport to Malaga city by taxi costs close to 10 euro, bus is cheaper but if we take it a few times per day and we take in consideration that bus stops are not close to where we want to go, car hire in Malaga stills a great choice.

Hello - Buying villa this year moving out 2 years
12/01/2010 - 15:04

Newbie!
Hi all. I am currently looking for a 4 bed villa ready for us to relocate.

Currently live in sunny Sheffield, we will be moving in a couple of years when my eldest goes to university. We (Glenn & Ann-Marie) will then be bringing with us our youngest Alfie who will then be 12 so we will have to be near a private International school for him.

Fortunate enough that we have retired at a relatively young age so there will be no work or financial issues but we are sooooo ready for a change in lifestyle.

We are looking for somewhere with a decent mixture of nationalities, and unlike many people on these forums we are not trying to get away from Brits, just our daily grind over here. Our priority will be an area where there are plenty of children for my son to make friends with, so almost certainly an expat community will help with this. We dont want to be too far inland but we dont want to be anywhere that attracts Stag or hen parties if you know what I mean!

We are very sociable, I love my golf and the wife her coffee and gossip, so a community feeling with a focal meeting area, (such as square, plaza, club, bars, restaurants, golf etc) is a must. We love other peoples company!

After holidays and property trips we have put an offer in for a large villa in Villamartin, as this seems to tick a lot of the boxes. This is currently in the process of repossession by the bank so nothing will happen soon and we are still looking just in case.

We are considering apart from Villamartin Ciudad Quesada & the Javier region on the CB as well as Callahonda and Fuengirola on the Costa del Sol. I am sure there are many places we do not know of yet so please enlighten us so we can check them out
